Annihilation is an RTS game for the PlayStation 2 that takes the best parts of the genre and leaves behind the mundane tasks that have no place in a command centre. Despite these issues, Extinction has a lot going for it, such as a fantastic control scheme that isn’t marred by a never-ending series of menu windows. Your success will be heavily dependent on your unit count and zerging prowess (tossing a mass measure of frail units at foes). Despite the fact that it’s an RTS, there’s surprisingly little strategy to consider beyond the obvious restrictions of each unit. Missions often include searching for targets and eliminating them, but they can also take the form of repair or endurance missions, which are essentially the same thing. Although this may disappoint some real-time strategy purists, it’s perfect for a game centred in a command centre. Predator: Extinction, which is excellent while not being a show-stopper.Įxtinction deviates significantly from the standard RTS formula by putting an emphasis on combat. A centralised RTS with only two stale film licences seems dull and uninteresting, no? The best example of how to execute a control centre RTS game well is Aliens vs. Predator: Extinctions, a film that features two incredibly well-known licences. Nevertheless, it hasn’t stopped engineers from trying, especially in light of Aliens vs. The PC’s one-class improvement is undeniable, no matter your stance.
